What's Happening?
Today is a very sad day for merengue and for the Dominican Republic. Johnny Ventura, El Caballo Mayor, has physically left us, but his legacy and joy will always be with us. My solidarity hug to his loved ones, in our family we will never forget Don Johnny's gesture, knowing that my other father, Don Rafael Abinader, before falling into bed had reserved a place to go to one of his presentations. Don Johnny Ventura did everything possible to communicate and visited him in Intensive Heart suitSmiling face with tear . EPD
The Dominican Republic's president, Luis Abinader stated that he will have three days of mourning over his death, and the singer receiving military honors.
After succeeding in his music career he got into politics from 1994 to 1998 as he became the vice mayor of Santo Domingo, and then the mayor himself of Santo Domingo from 1998 to 2002.
The first Dominican-American (Rep. Adriano Espaillat) elected to Congress who was a good friend to Ventura said
He was a man of his word, a man of endless talent, a national treasure, and an icon of the Dominican community, My heart breaks now that he's gone, but his spirit must — and will — live on. Rest in power, brother.
Ventura was with his wife Nelly Josefina Flores for 50 years, they had seven children, 17 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
